UK terrorist threat level raised to 'severe'

The UK terror threat level is being raised from "substantial" to "severe", Home Secretary Alan Johnson has said.

The new alert level means a terrorist attack is considered "highly likely". It had stood at substantial since July.

It is in response to the perceived increased threat from international terrorism following the failed Detroit airliner bombing on Christmas day.

Mr Johnson stressed there was no intelligence to suggest a terrorist attack was imminent.

The decision to raise the threat level was made by the UK's Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC).

Definitely terrorists are greedy men with dangerous weapons pointed at the helpless and innocent?? Definitely then they are also our governments, lets judge by their actions - not agenda, beliefs or labels alone.

Since it has been made clear there is no intelligence to suggest an imminent attack, I suppose we just raised the terrorist threat level bar just for a little bit of fun pre-election. How, Coy.

They always do this, especially in the US.. if things are quiet they ramp up the alert status so no one complains when an additional 100,000 CCTV cameras are added.
