Part of southern Germany's Munich airport has been closed down after a traveller fled when his laptop was submitted to an explosives test.

Terminal 2 was sealed off as a search was mounted for the man who fled into a secured area, police said.

Initial reports said explosive traces had actually been found but later accounts could not confirm this.

About 12 flights to destinations in Germany and abroad have been delayed, an airport spokesman said.

Munich airport, situated about 30km (20m) north-east of the city, is the second busiest airport in Germany.
