New Season of 24 - Preparing USA For Public Drones

I couldn't help but notice in the first 2 episodes of 24 they relied heavily on "Drones" patrolling city streets. Likely something of this nature:



The way 24 was going on about these drones and accessing them it was as if there were hundreds of them hovering in the city spying on the population. I am not sure where 24 is going to go with this yet. On one hand it could be a ploy to make Americans comfortable with drone technology on their own streets, on the other hand maybe 24 will show that ultimately they are a mistake. It's too early in the season to tell. So far it looks like a clever marketing program to get the public ready for drone filled skies.

Without watching any of the videos, I'm at work and youtube is blocked - I can see the benefits for low risk surveillence and intel gathering by ASIO, MI5, FBI and also a wide use by the tactical arms of the world's police forces.

It inherently lowers the risk of operations, especially in a high risk tactical situation. Take for example, SWAT need to action a search and seize raid on a Bikie compound, why send a team of operators forward for surveillance when you could simply fly a drone over the target location and gather what is needed.

I realilse that nothing will replace a man on the ground in terms of stealth, but for overt, direct action tasks I can imagine these drones would be/will become invaluable.
