UKIP to call for ban on wearing burka

It would be the first national party to call for a total ban on the Islamic headgear; the far-right British National Party believes they should be banned from schools.

Lord Pearson of Rannoch, the leader of Ukip, wants to raise the issue of the influence of Sharia law in Britain, according to a report in The Times.


He told the newspaper: “We are taking expert advice on how we could do it. It makes sense to ban the burka — or anything which conceals a woman’s face — in public buildings. But we want to make it possible to ban them in private buildings. It isn’t right that you can’t see someone’s face in an airport.”

He added: “We are not Muslim bashing, but this is incompatible with Britain’s values of freedom and democracy.”

The newspaper said Ukip would make an announcement on Sunday describing the burka as a threat to gender equality and claiming that it marginalises women and endangers public safety because terrorists could use them to hide their identity.

Incompatible with Britains Freedom and Democracy??? So let's go ahead and dictate ourselves a bit! The arrogance is astounding. I see what they are saying, and I understand what they are saying the headgear symbolosies, but i really think that harmony peace and freedom is about togetherness. It is so hard to put humpty dumpty back together again you know?? I'm not sure this egg should be broken.

I'm not sure the reaction is going to be that which we desire, so what freedom - no matter what the suffering, no matter what better path there might be to freeedom? urghh *goes to be sick*

I tend to side with the removal. I do not think people should be out and about with concealed faces and it will just lead to acts of crime and violence giving the perpetrators easy ability to evade or commit acts of crime. Imagine if I started a religion that required hockey masks are worn, should the streets of Britian be allowed to have scores of people wearing hockey masks because my religion demands it? I am a firm believer of 'When in Rome'. If I go to another country I will respect their laws and traditions without question, but would never expect my own country to accommodate. There is also ample proof that those in question are rabidly against becoming part of British society and claim their goal is to take over (they are not shy about it)

Muslim hate fanatics plan to take over Britain by having more babies and forcing a population explosion, it has been revealed.

The swollen Muslim population would be enough to conquer Britain from inside, they claim.

Fanatics told a meeting of young Muslims on the anniversary of the 9/11 atrocity, that it would then be easy to impose Sharia law on the population, the Sun newspaper reported.

Speaking at a meeting in London, Anjem Choudary, right-hand man of exiled preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed, said: "It may be by pure conversion that Britain will become an Islamic state. We may never need to conquer it from the outside."

Hey Sean there are elements I agree with, but seriously - when was the last time when you saw a woman with a burkha carring out a high street robbery??

How often does stuff like that happen? Maybe not here, abroad perhaps? I genuinely don't know. Definitely agree with you about traditions in other countries, but maybe there is an integration process that works both ways too?? sort of like the spread of western music, it might not be appreciated - but that's okay, because western music is 'good' - something like that?

I don't know hehee, perhaps we need to redefine respect, and tradition, perhaps they won't matter one day? Scary... I'm not even ready for that and i'd like to see myself as forward thinking... definitely at the moment, i value society in its variation, it means that capitalism - democracy - or any other system isnt going to go bad and take rule of the domain.

I wonder if that is why china stays strictly 'communist' and America strictly western - then again, republicanism is on the rise, as is fascism IMO.

Natural growing pains maybe? I guess we'll have to wait and see if we really want to know..

If only for trust in the community I agree with the banning of the burkha. It is not a religious symbol, it is a symbol of female subservience.

The problem with 'integration' in Britain is it only works one way, we are supposed to change our ways to fit in with newcomers while they make no effort to integrate with our customs, traditions, and values.
