What kind of people would harm a mother and father simply because they sent their daughter to school?

The answer: The Taliban, apparently.

And, now, as absurd as it might sound, they're reportedly threatening the lives of parents who want their daughters to get an education.

Why?

Because according to their understanding of Islamic law, girls are not supposed to get an education - or at least not much of one.

Hey, I'm a liberal republican, I suppose, and I have always respected the teaching of Muhammad and Islam, I don't understand why they would do this? Surely this is not a strict interpretation of Islam, but something quite different.

A rejection of the evil of the west, perhaps? They see it as interference, and , well, it is. But still, this isn't really on at all either is it?
