Supernova star too close for comfort

Supernova star too close for comfort: Scientific American

Astronomers have identified a ticking time-bomb in space that lies perilously close to the Earth, they revealed today. The star, called T Pyxidis, looks set to explode as a supernova with the force of 20 billion billion billion megatons of TNT.

It's always great when we find yet another way the universe is trying to screw us over :-) At least we've plenty of time to get ready. 10 million year should be more than enough time to shield everything. The firework display would be exceedingly impressive.
