Discoveries as marvelous and brilliant as this discovered by such pioneers surely should receive more attention praise and study. These are truly wonderful creatures, and like all things, will have much gifts of knowledge and ideas to depart. Spectacular deep sea pictures taken in Antarctica have revealed waters teeming with life.

Staff at the British Antarctic Survey captured the images as part of a project to explore biodiversity in the Bellingshausen Sea.

"Few people realise just how rich in biodiversity the Southern Ocean is — even a single trawl can reveal a fascinating array of weird and wonderful creatures as would be seen on a coral reef," said research team leader David Barnes.


This octopus was one of the more common sea creatures they came across


The partly-transparent Isopod Crustacean was among the discoveries.

Scientists believe animals such as skates may thrive with climate change.

The Comb Jelly is also expected to enjoy warmer waters.

The Basket Star catches its prey by spectacularly unfurling its arms into a web.

The freezing waters are ideal for icefish, which do not have red blood cells.

The amphipod, or sand hopper, was another of the creatures captured.
