Here be Magick

Recently I found myself participating in a conversation with a very knowledgeable and talented Biologist, on passing interest my mention of the works of Penrose, Mckenna, Leary and other seemingly non-related subtleties to the natures of consciousness, and

information theory I quickly became the individual bore by the burden of proof, per say. From a shamanic and spiritual perspective it seemed to be be a very difficult thing to explain how something such as cellular automata could possibly be related to a model for consciousness, in fact my dear friend pointed out that cellular automata is quite the opposite model to be used for expressing functions of self awareness, or consciousness.

I found myself in disagreement with dismissal of these notions so easily, given that consciousness is still very much yet to be defined, seemingly regardless of this - theories that have been shown in doubt still are metaphorically thrown in the bin for fear of being led up the garden path. Although such a notion seems logical, when dealing with something as illogically capable as consciousness, I feel such prejudice to be somewhat premature, largely given to the lack of a proper model of consciousness; and equally, while cellular automata may seem unrelated, I still maintain the fact that consciousness is an emergent property that arises from a critical amount of connectivity within an information system. I find myself wanting to use the word 'entangled', however there are physicists and scientists right now inescapably tramping their feet and shouting at heresy. Although seemingly reserved for the realm of philosophy rather than its natural counterpart of physics, I cannot help but want to mention that everything is related to everything - without being the victim of the argument that 'there is no wisdom in this', which although may be true, there can certainly be wisdom found in this, the universe, and in inspecting information systems within it such as cellular automata thoroughly enough to understand consciousness. To me it seemed a very rationalist perspective of logic purest, and although any spiritualist can happily ramble how science lacks humanity, this is in fact sciences ultimate vision, to completely remove humanity from the scope of experimentation, and thus get more accurate results. Of course, leaving the boundary of consciousness, or self awareness is not possible, which is why most definitions, matched with out lack of understanding consciousness, are admitted by philosophers and scientists as pure assumption.

This is something i feel that many people forget, after all when dealing with large information systems of complexity, such as the self mind - it is very easy to think that we are complex people or that ideas and theories must be complex to somehow be tenably acceptable to exist or equally think that lines of research must be linear, familiar and recognizable to existing scientific or native paradigms to culture. History records otherwise.

Throughout all of worldwide culture there seems to be a resistance to the universe as it is, and a preference to the universe that we know. Earl Nightingale, in the the greatest discovery said 'A man is equal to the sum of his thoughts', surprisingly was the first GOLD best seller documentary speech LP and even more surprisingly is talking from a psychoanalytical perspective of consciousness. It was shocking to me in first hearing, how similar such a statement is with the teachings of The Golden Dawn schools of mystery, as well as the Freemasons and the Knights of Malta; that is an integration of subtle forces creating a greater whole, via understandings.

One thing science has found is that the Universe is not how we see it at all, if Darwin lived today he might have said that our self awareness of the universe comes from the universe, at least I'd hope so as quite literally - the inherited self substantiating DNA of human beings , very much is a derivative and substantiator of Darwin's Theory of Natural Evolution, it is the opinion of the writer that this can be taken further, but the primary potentials of the sensitivities to awareness are contained within the DNA, instructions to create ears, mouths, minds, hearts. Much like the first organ to grow is usually the heart, the first creation is information encoded within strings, like characters of geometry, ultimately resulting in the fateful set of possibilities for any environment of subject. To the alchemist or shaman such information is not only relevant, but required readings and a part of every day life in making the cultural bridge such people are most equipped to do. We all share a large proportion of DNA with eachother, genetically we are 99% the same to eachother, and 90% or more with many other species, indeed what we see as the universe could only have come from the universe, in science of magick, alchemy and occultism.

Mostly the argument seems to be definition, when really , like all systems of information - the actually important thing is - where is it coming from. Psychoanalytically I would ask myself and anyone, do you really want to know what makes Ouija Boards work? Do you really want to know how to contact the dead? Open up a portal of subtle energy that is a catalyst for evil and the paranormal? If the answer is no, and yet you fear it, you are a liar.

There is no secret of magick, only secrets of the universe, there is no disagreement among the field of science and the field of magick, there is disagreement between the men between them with their various configuration of agendas and dogma of culture. Seemingly demonstrating a dualism that has been observed by shamans, and most recently by Jung as a collective consciousness, and the singularity of the individual consciousness mind. Or put better, two systems of information systems with internal and external cellular activations and subtle carriers, determined by DNA. A box within a box, or a system within a system.

It has been subject to scientific naysaying for many years, but as we begin to get closer to understanding consciousness, we begin to see more and more that the mind is a subliminal machine affected significantly by its subtle environment; Darwins work is a great testament to this as is the crude but groundbreaking psychoanalytical work in the early 20th century Psychology which ultimately led to the rise in Modern Medical Pharmaceuticals of the 21st century today.

It is established by hypnotherapy, by study of psychology, by the ancient arts of Qi Gong there is a strong link to the existence of many subtle energies of interaction which could somehow be related in a non familiar work to 'real science'. Indeed, science must accept and grant some recognition that any understanding of these subtle forces, can give you an advantage, consciously - and that's a fact. It's called magick. Two quotes from the wise Arthur C Clarke sums this concept up nicely:

'Any technology sufficiently advanced would appear to be magick to anyone'

'The universe isn't greater than we imagine, it's greater than we CAN imagine'


The conscious advantage to the magician is, that he is consciously aware, and understandings the mechanics of awareness, thus able to control the information availability to you, and thus modify your consciousness.

This is the greatest example of the demonstration of subtle energies. A more advanced alchemist or occultist realises once the subtle information of magick 'tricks' the consciousness of the subject, a change in their state of mind arises, and also a change in the environment they are surrounded by, as a natural reaction of the conscious modification, a refined magician will understand there is other feedback continuums also, creating a portal of singular shared reality, that basically means. magician tricks via information in environment, changes subjects consciousness via information, subject changes environment information via his consciousness change of information, and these systems feed back into eachother (Fractal?).

This is exactly like when you think you see a person coming to attack you, when in fact you are mistaken, and misread the universe, you display certain features and certain reactions that are both voluntary and involuntary, indeed the level of awareness and it's control lays not only in the mind, but the environment that surrounds it.

It is the writers wish to explain magick in a way that is not highly cryptic or highly scientific, but is yet compatible with the notion that, all information is assumption, and the accuracy of assumptions change based on information systems, whether or not this is a result of consciousness or environment ironically plagues many high professors and physicists, and it is with some irony that Shamans and works such as the King Weng Iching sequence devised thousands of years ago were already tackling such problems of perception, and feedback among environment. To a high magician or occultist, or scientist, one usually reaches the conclusion that there is no such thing as magick or science, only what exists, what is to be manipulated and what is to be done, how and why.

Much like consciousness, magick is the awareness of not just the information, but the mechanics of how it interacts.

The only problem with this is, that if there is free-will then if I know there is free-will then I will have an advantage, but if free-will doesn't as accepted by modern neuroscience & cortex research, free-will was never available in the first place. However, such a model, is based purely on the cortex and not the dualism that exists between the universe, indeed not to create just primordial slime, dna , and consciousness, but to actually provide it with an environment to substantiate.

The negotiation of the universe, equally could be considered very much a negotiation of ourselves, we are never separated by it, as it seems, the universe has a great wish for us to admire its great dynamic-ism and beauty, and an even greater insistence to create countless possibilities of subtle influence that spread out into the future like wings of the Heisenberg uncertainly principle. Although it seems magick has no logical future in the wake of a mind without free-will, one must argue, amongst even all these forces of influence that we did not ask, there does seem to be a prevailing resistance to persistence and indeed life in humanity, it may well be we are mistaking the most conscious individuals of all as the insane and the suicidal - it is indeed not logical to resist logic, but yet somehow we still do it against all odds, if the cortex is indeed logical as scientists would have us believe then, occultists as myself can only assume that these mindstates are a result of the fate of the singularity AND the universe as the subtle force of influence, and if this is so - magick and alchemy still exist in these subtle forces, again it is not the existence of a magickal universe that can be refuted by either, but it is the definition, or without blinds, the source - the most hidden secret of all occult things.

ps. my dear friend was able to dismiss free-will because he was looking at the cortex as being a giant keyboard as it is, is still very much pre-determined, what i think he forgot though, would be the infinite symphony of the universe in constant biofeedback with that 'predetermined' system!!

pss. maybe the above is part of how self awareness and the allowance of self contradictory functions could evolve in human minds, and indeed Darwinian notions of life, in the first place.
